Meta’s announced the latest round of updates for its new video editing app, the creatively titled “Edits,” including updated audio editing, improved visual editing tools, new font options, and more.
First off, you can now extend audio elements beyond the video playback in your Edits creations, providing more creative options.
As you can see in the first image above, the capacity to expand your audio beyond the video track will give you more presentation options. The second screen shows the new “cut silences” option, which enables you to automatically remove unwanted gaps from your Reels.
You can also now import audio files from your device for use in your clips.
Which seems like it’ll open the door for copyright violations, but Meta has detection built in to address any such misuse.
Edits is also getting improved connection within each element, so you can easily swipe through clips in your saved Reels, collections and audio files, while it’s also added a new preview element in the video editing UI, so you can improve your transitions.
There are also even more fonts being added to the app, while you can also now save your drafts from Edits to IG direct.
These are some handy additions, which expand the capacity of Edits and its value as a video creation tool. And it’s already becoming an important consideration for every creator and marketer, with a range of features that enable custom creation, and refined editing of your video clips.
Of course, the concern is that, eventually, Edits will become a paid tool, with Instagram already flagging that it may eventually need to charge for some elements, specifically its AI-powered creation tools.
Maybe, that will mean that only these specific functions become paid add-ons, but there is some concern that this could eventually become a paid tool overall, adding to your creation costs.
But then again, with more and more features being added every week, it’ll likely be worth a subscription either way, though we’ll have to wait and see as to whether Meta looks to charge for it, and when.
