Instagram has added a new feature that will enable Reels creators to effectively build their own series, via various Reels clips, by linking Reels to one another in-stream.
As you can see in this example, by using the new “Link a reel” option within the composer, you can connect up several Reels into an ongoing set. You can also connect older Reels by tapping the overflow menu and selecting the same.
So now, if you have several clips on the same topic, and you want to lead your audience through the sequence, you can connect them up within the app, which will add a “Watch Part 2” (or whatever number in the sequence) to the bottom of the clip.
Instagram says that this will enable expanded storytelling in short-format, while also giving creators another means to organize their content, and guide users through related clips.
Which, it’s also worth noting, you can already do on TikTok. TikTok offers simplified linking, as well as its “Series” option that enables creators to build a collection of linked videos.
So like a lot of Instagram features, it’s not entirely new, but it is new to IG, and it will provide more functional connection between related clips.
Instagram says that this has been a much-requested feature, and it could be a big help in driving ongoing engagement and viewership, and showcasing more of your clips.
Of course, you want to make sure your linked clips actually do relate to each other, otherwise you could end up annoying your audience by linking to unrelated content. But it’s a good option, which could be a valuable addition to your Reels strategy.
Instagram says that Reels linking is being rolled out to all users from today.
