TikTok is partnering with a YouTube’s biggest creator, MrBeast, on a new initiative to help raise money to raise money for water supply projects around the world.
MrBeast’s “Team Water” project aims to raise $40 million to fund long-term sustainable water projects to assist remote communities around the world.
The project follows on from the success of MrBeast’s “Team Trees” and “Team Seas” initiatives, which raised over $50 million collectively for charity projects.
TikTok is among the various celebrities and brands joining the case, with TikTok looking to promote the charity push, while also enabling users to contribute via dedicated stickers and charitable donation tools.
TikTok will also donate $1.5 million to the project.
As per TikTok:
“The campaign will be supported by a global coalition of content creators from more than 84 countries with a combined audience of 2 billion followers. Joining the movement are some of the world’s most influential creators, including Mark Rober, Kai Cenat, Nick DiGiovanni, Jimmy Kimmel, Gordon Ramsay, Hank Green, Fede Vigevani, The Stokes Twins and many more.”
TikTok says that the funding will go towards long-term sustainable water solutions including solar-powered wells and gravity-fed pipelines.
TikTok users will be able to support the campaign via a new #TeamWater Donation Sticker:
“Tap the sticker on eligible videos to contribute, or add it to your own content to help spread awareness.”
It’s a good initiative, promoting social good projects, and enabling well-known creators to leverage their popularity for a valuable cause.
Though it is interesting to see TikTok highlighting MrBeast in its promotions. As noted, MrBeast is the world’s most popular YouTuber, and I do wonder how YouTube would feel about TikTok using MrBeast in its own showcase.
I mean, MrBeast also posts on TikTok as well, so it’s not out of left field for him to appear in a TikTok-aligned promotion. But still, it is interesting to see TikTok latching onto his popularity.
It also gives TikTok an opportunity to showcase its social awareness, and the power of the platform to assist in positive projects. Which, with the U.S. ban talk ongoing, can only be a positive for its public perception.
The new #TeamWater stickers are now active in the TikTok app.
